Why do we need to clean outdoor playground equipment carefully?

Outdoor playground equipment lives outside, and it is exposed to wind, rain, sunlight and birds droppings, so there is inevitably dust and garbage on the surface of the equipment. The outdoor playground is the most popular place for children, on which they like to crawl and step on. Thus, if outdoor equipment is not cleaned properly, their small hands can become full of dust and germs, threatening their health. As parents, we are always vigilant against all factors that are not conducive to the healthy growth of children; as operators of children outdoor playgrounds, we are responsible for the health of the audience of the playground.

(1)Read product labels

Before you clean product equipment, please read product information carefully, and pay attention to warnings and chose the most appropriate cleaner. For example, if the equipment is plastic, you should know that bleach solutions may discolor any plastics that aren’t white. If the equipment is wooden, you should figure out which kind of wood they belong to because water that soaks into all these wood species like redwood, cedar, teak and other hardwoods will cause them to crack. If it is foam, please keep in mind that polyurethane foam should be spot-cleaned only.

(2)Cleaning methods

Plastic: Plastic is featured prominently in playground equipment. To clean the plastic parts of your playground, you can do as follows.

Firstly, you should prepare a soft brush, a soap, a towel and enough water. Dealing with areas with stuck-on grime, you can prepare baking soda, vinegar or bleach, making them ratio to water be 3:1, 1:1, 1:1.

Secondly, soak your brush into the soap water and try to use it wipe all surfaces down. If you use soda or vinegar, please liberally use the brush to apply the paste onto the plastic or spray it with  the vinegar solution. If you need to use the bleach, please wear gloves and submerge the plastic in the bleach and water solution for 5 to 10 minutes. Then scrub it with the brush.

Thirdly, rinse the equipment with clean water and and allow the equipment to air-dry before allowing kids to play on the equipment so there are no slick spots.

Wood:

Firstly, remove surface dirt and dust with a clean, soft cotton cloth.

Secondly, always test the detergent you choose before you use it and make sure there is no discoloration. Mineral spirits are safe for most wood finishes. If it is safe, wipe down the whole wood piece with the damp cloth.

Thirdly, soak a clean cloth in water and wipe down the whole wood piece to remove any residue from the mineral spirits.

Foam:

Firstly, use a cloth to clean the surface of the equipment.

What’s the difference between indoor and outdoor playground equipment cleaning?

Though indoor playgrounds can avoid the rain, wind and dust, it doesn’t mean that runners needn’t to clean them. On the country, we need to clean them daily.

Firstly, you need to clean and disinfect once at the beginning or end of each day. You need to keep an eye on your equipment throughout the day for any smudges or dirt that needs to be wiped off.?

Secondly, compared with outdoor playground equipment which is big, indoor playground equipment is small but has many items. Besides, you also need to pay attention to floor hygiene. There may be cookie crumbs eaten by children, toys thrown around, and water glasses that have been knocked over. Kids love to roll on the floor.
